About Us

My name is Carla Gore and I am the owner of The Salty Gypsea.  I am a beach lover who enjoys the summer months most!  I love the ocean and I am a big advocate of keeping our waterways and beaches clean!  My love of the beach and the fact that I was originally a mobile, traveling like a gypsy, helped inspire The Salty Gypsea's name.

The Salty Gypsea began as a daydream, I have always had a love for fashion and dreamed of one day owning my own boutique. I worked in Industrial Distribution for about 22 years prior and I was burned out and just couldn't imagine sitting behind a desk for another 20 years! 

Quiting my job and opening a brick and morter store seemed daunting and out of reach until the day I saw a mobile store and I became obssesed with the idea! With a lot of prayer and encouragement from my husband, about 3 years later we found a truck and The Salty Gypsea Mobile Boutique was created!!

I did events and pop-ups in the truck for about 2-1/2 years and loved every minute of it.  My husband and I moved to the Outer Banks in 2019 and decided to take another leap of faith and find a space for a storefront.

We opened our very first Salty Gypsea store in the Buccaneer Shops in Kitty Hawk, NC in May 2020. We love where we live and we have felt very welcomed by the community!  

I enjoy what I am doing and love meeting new people and making new friends.  I hand pick the items that we carry. I would say our style is a little beachy and a little boho.  It truly makes my heart happy when people come in and find  something they love and they feel good in it!
